VAULT Field of View
VAULT can observe only a relatively small region of the solar disk (outlined in the white box).

Field of View Closeup
All of the images on this page were taken within this field of view (outlined in the white boxes).

Active Region
Localized, transient area of the solar atmosphere in which plages, sunspots, faculae, flares, etc. are observed.

Filament
Dense, somewhat cool strands of material suspended above the solar surface.

Prominence
A filament seen above the solar limb. The dense material is suspended above the solar surface by magnetic loops.

Quiet Sun
Relatively quiescent area of the solar surface with minimal large scale magnetic activity.
